The World Book Bag [Alem: The World]

The World Book Bag is one of our brand new products that launched as part of the 2019 Fall Line! We are so excited to bring you an updated version of the Carry 117 book bag.  

“The World Book Bag is named after Carry 117’s cleaner, Alem. Alem’s name means “The World” in Ethiopia. She has worked for Carry 117 for about two years and comes early in the morning to make sure the workplace and compound are clean before the other ladies start sewing. She is a mother of two beautiful girls named Hassat and Kiya. Hassat is always the first person to run and give you a hug when entering the compound, since that’s her favorite thing to do. Hassat also loves to sing and has a beautiful voice.”

When asked about having a bag named after her, Alem said, “The World Book Bag is very special, strong, and beautiful. That’s how I would explain my life now, too. My life has changed a lot since I start working at Carry 117. I can now send my daughters, Kia and Hassat, to school with the fruits of my own labor. I am able to give them what I never had the chance to have when I was growing up. It makes me so proud.”

The World Book Bag is an updated version of our original book bag. This gender-neutral bag is sure to turn heads no matter where you are going. It’s handmade with adjustable straps. The army green canvas and tan cow leather combo is a show-stopper. It’s lined with a neutral cotton liner with a padded laptop pocket inside. There is also a front leather pocket in the front that zips closed. The dimensions of this front leather pocket are 4” deep x 9” tall x 12” wide. It also has elastic side pockets on both sides of the bag, so you can fit any size water bottle, energy drink, or coffee travel cup in them. The main compartment consists of a zipper to close it. The Carry 117 logo is on the outside of the bag and the specific measurements are 13" wide x 17" high x 6.5" deep.
