The Medi Bag [Medicine]
The Medi Bag was introduced in 2018 and continues to be one of our very best-sellers! We are not surprised because this bag can be used for many purposes. And being named after one of our most beloved staff members, Medi, it’s bound to be a favorite.
The Medi Bag is named after Carry 117’s supervisor, Medi (Medhanit). She has worked for Carry 117 from the very beginning. Medi makes sure that every bag is made to perfection, and as the supervisor, she makes sure the women are thriving on their jobs and keeps Carry 117 going.
“Medi is by far the most amazing person you will ever meet. The journey she has traveled just in the past six years is so remarkable. She had a difficult time supporting herself and her young son, Yaboo, because she had no skills to make a living. She had been a house cleaner and a maid before working at Carry 117. She started as a cleaner for Carry 117, and has now worked her way up to being Carry 117’s supervisor. She is currently one of our best sewers. Seeing the transformation in Medi’s life and skillset while working at Carry 117 is the reason why I started this organization. To help empower single mothers to provide for themselves and their families. Don’t get me wrong, it is ALL MEDI and her hard work, discipline, contagious smile, and drive, but Carry 117 was the platform that gave Medi the opportunity to use the gifts she already had in a way to help her family and others. She is one of our hardest workers and we know Carry 117 wouldn’t be the same without her.”

When asked about having a bag named after her, Medi said, “I am proud of myself for my patience and resilience. My life has changed because of this job. I have rented a good house and I am able to send my son to school. Before, I did not even have a bed. But now, I have a bed! I feel like I can achieve anything. I can confidently tell people I have a job, I support myself and family, and I know how to make the most beautiful bags. This bag is my favorite because it’s the most beautiful, and it holds a lot of things."

The Medi Bag is the perfect bag to use for overnight trips, work, and travel…just to name a few. This bag is sure to turn heads because of the amazing color combos we have put together. It’s one of the most eye-catching bags we have! It’s handmade with premium leather and the traditional Ethiopian cotton handwoven fabric. It comes in the army green canvas and tan cow leather combo, brown stripe, or blue stripe handwoven traditional Ethiopian material with chestnut brown leather, or the gray burlap with leather combo (light gray/tan leather or dark gray/chestnut leather) is a show-stopper!
The Carry 117 logo is stamped on the luggage tag included on the handle of the bag. The bag zips shut. The bag is lined with a black cotton lining, and has two pockets inside, one that is open, and one that zips closed. The specific measurements of this bag are are 16.5" (wide) x 16" (high) x 7" (deep).
